Your personal domain keyword list

Am I the only one who’s noticed there are a ton of great domains available for purchase right now at historically low prices?

The aftermarket, auction sites and forums are full of deals, and DNJournal’s weekly sales chart shows a definite slowdown. Economic conditions are forcing many investors and online businesses to liquidate in order to cover more pressing expenses (like payroll;)

But unless you have unlimited cash and a huge staff, it would be impossible to take advantage of every opportunity out there. That’s why smart domain investors invest in specific niches and vertical markets they have an interest in, rather than every great domain that’s available…

  • Narrowing down the universe of names by industry or niche means you can spend more time analyzing and researching each domain and make a more informed purchase decision.
  • Focusing on specific niches means you have a deeper understanding of potential advertisers as well as going rates for traffic, actions, and customer acquisition.
  • Owning a number of domains in a category allows you to scale up development plans, and make a bolder entrance into a market with multiple sites instead of just one or two.

Effective domainers begin their daily search with a keyword list that includes words and phrases known to be valuable, as well as niches they find themselves drawn to. In fact, every successful domainer I have ever met has a hit-list they use as a basis for searching daily drops and available inventory on sites like NameJet.com, DNForum.com and TDNAM.com.

For example, I focus on a number of categories. Some are secret, but there are a few I’m known for, like Singles names. So on my list, in addition to my other keywords, I have:

date
dating
singles
personals

I have a number of names and sites in these categories, and make money with them through a few high-paying affiliate offers. Because I know how to monetize them beyond parking, I’m not afraid to pay what other investors might feel is above normal reseller prices. In fact, my experience in that niche helps me recognize opportunities others might not since I know what the traffic is really worth.

Additionally, online dating and singles names are a very stable niche. OnlineSingles.com (not mine) has traction, and consistent search volume over 3 - 5 years, compared to a tech name like BluetoothHeadsets.com (also not mine).

Below is an initial hit-list that can give you a start. Choose 10 - 20 of these, as well as keywords in your own niche, and you’ll find yourself both more productive, as well as more focused.

Respectfully,

Smash
